The crack is full of me

Summer is just starting again and I am forced to think of all those that will be leaving us to take a new path in their life… but you all have been through that so no need to expand….

Instead I want to think about the people that have slipped through the cracks. The people who have had some minor influence on our life that we soon forget. Like the guy in our first class of college who turned and said “hi” and let you realize that the world isn’t as big and scary as you thought (or hoped). For me this was someone who I later discovered was friends with some guys right down the hall and in turn friends with a girl that became a best friend and then more for a while.

This is a greatful bow to all those people who have been forgotten. Many of them do not even realize that they had any effect at all. Another guy comes to mind from last year. Moved in at semester and helped me take that first step towards another great saga and friendship in my life. Only now to have him move to another city and hardly hear from him again, but if it werent for him I may have never become so close to a friend.

Or even the random person you stop to talk to on campus. I remember during one of my late night walks running across two people that literally stopped to smell the flowers… Probably talked with them for about an hour. Helping me to discover the wonderful things we have all around us if only we would stop to take the time to look. Never have seen them again. Another soul lost in the cracks of my memories.

So what can you learn from this… Who knows… I know that I have discovered that people can change your life if you only give them a chance. I know that one of my best friends I have met in Manhattan gave me a terrible first impression, but because I gave him a chance he helped form me into the person I am proud to be today. Yes you may end up being one of the people who slips through the cracks to never be remembered again… but it is a natural process as God brings in people for a purpose and then sends them on. I challenge you to open up and dont be afraid of the cracks… because sooner or later you are gonna find that there are some cracks you dont fit in…. And those are the friendships that make it all worth while.

… poems are my own work…
